Project Manager Salary in India: Average Salary & Pay Range

Cloud engineering is one of the fastest-growing and consistently well-paid tracks in Indian tech. The role sits at the intersection of infrastructure, DevOps, and application architecture. Companies need people who can build, manage, and secure cloud environments at scale and they are paying for it.

The national average across all experience levels sits around ₹7 to 8.4 LPA on platforms like Glassdoor and AmbitionBox. That number is weighted down by the large volume of IT services roles at the bottom. At product companies, GCCs, and FAANG India, the ranges are materially higher.

If you are preparing for a cloud engineer interview, Intervue.io connects you with senior cloud engineers for one-on-one mock interviews. Real scenarios, specific feedback on what you need to fix. Visit intervue.io.

The Numbers by Experience Level

Fresher (0 to 2 years): ₹4 to 7 LPA. At IT services companies like TCS and LTIMindtree, ₹4 to 5.5 LPA. At product companies and cloud-native startups, ₹5 to 9 LPA. One important nuance: freshers with a cloud associate certification and a deployed project earn more than freshers with only theoretical knowledge. The certification alone gets you screened. The project work gets you hired.

Mid-level (3 to 5 years): ₹8 to 16 LPA at most companies. At product companies and funded startups, ₹12 to 22 LPA. At GCCs, ₹14 to 25 LPA. The defining characteristic of a mid-level cloud engineer who earns at the top of this range: they own infrastructure, not just raise tickets about it.

Senior (6 to 9 years): ₹18 to 30 LPA at product companies. ₹22 to 40 LPA at GCCs. ₹28 to 50 LPA at FAANG India. Senior cloud engineers at this level are making architecture decisions, owning cost management, and leading incident response. That scope is what justifies the pay.

Cloud Architect (7 to 12 years): ₹25 to 55 LPA. The range is wide because architect means different things at different companies. An architect at a mid-size product company doing hands-on work earns ₹25 to 38 LPA. A principal cloud architect at FAANG India or a top-tier GCC earns ₹45 to 65 LPA.

Principal and staff level (10 or more years): ₹55 LPA to ₹1 Cr and above at FAANG India, well-funded product companies, and top GCCs. Real but not the norm. Do not plan around it.

Platform Makes a Difference

AWS, Azure, and GCP are not equivalent in the Indian job market. Knowing which platform your target company uses changes which skills to prioritise.

AWS has the largest job market in India by volume. Cloud engineers with deep AWS experience are in demand across every company type. Mid-level AWS engineers earn ₹10 to 22 LPA. Senior AWS engineers earn ₹20 to 40 LPA. The AWS DevOps Engineer Professional and Solutions Architect Professional certifications are the most valuable pair for salary negotiation.

Azure is dominant at enterprises, BFSI companies, and Microsoft-ecosystem companies. Azure engineers earn comparably to AWS engineers at mid and senior level. Azure Expert Administrator is the highest-value single Azure certification for salary impact.

GCP is the smallest market in India by job volume but commands a premium because fewer engineers have deep GCP experience. Mid-level GCP engineers earn ₹12 to 24 LPA. The premium is most visible in data-heavy and AI-adjacent companies that have chosen GCP for BigQuery and Vertex AI.

Multi-cloud experience (any two of the three platforms at production depth) is a 20 to 30% salary premium at senior level. Companies running multi-cloud environments need engineers who can reason across platform differences without constantly asking which platform something is on.

Company Type Shapes the Range

IT services companies (TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, HCLTech, LTIMindtree, IBM) employ the largest number of cloud engineers in India. TCS pays ₹4 to 8 LPA for cloud engineer roles. LTIMindtree is in a similar band. IBM runs higher at ₹4.5 to 13.5 LPA. These are managed services environments: you are operating cloud infrastructure for clients, not building it from scratch. The pay is stable. The ceiling is real.

Product companies and unicorns (Flipkart, Razorpay, Swiggy, PhonePe, Zepto, CRED) pay significantly more and the cloud work is more interesting. You are building and operating infrastructure that the product depends on. Mid-level earns ₹14 to 28 LPA. Senior earns ₹28 to 50 LPA. These roles usually require a stronger interview than IT services.

GCCs (Walmart Global Tech, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Deutsche Bank, Wells Fargo, Wells Fargo) are the sweet spot for many cloud engineers: competitive pay, interesting cloud problems, and better work-life balance than pure product companies. Mid-level earns ₹16 to 30 LPA. Senior earns ₹28 to 50 LPA.

FAANG India is the top tier. Google India pays the most for cloud roles, averaging ₹37.7 LPA across all cloud engineer levels per AmbitionBox data. Amazon Web Services India runs ₹21.3 LPA average. Microsoft India around ₹20.3 LPA. These are averages across all levels, so senior and architect roles push well above these figures.

The Certification Premium: What Is Real and What Is Not

Cloud certifications are one of the few things on a CV that genuinely improve your salary offer rather than just your shortlist rate. But the premium is not uniform.

For engineers with one to five years of experience, an AWS Solutions Architect Associate or Professional adds 20 to 35% to the base offer at product companies and GCCs. Engineers who pass the AWS DevOps Engineer Professional while earning ₹10 LPA regularly negotiate their next role at ₹14 to 16 LPA.

For engineers above eight years of experience, certifications matter less. What moves the salary at senior level is demonstrated production experience: how complex a cloud environment you have owned, how serious the incidents you have handled were, and how well you can reason about architecture trade-offs in an interview.

The certification that consistently shows up at the top of salary data by skills is Azure. AmbitionBox shows Azure engineers averaging ₹20.7 LPA compared to ₹7.4 LPA for AWS engineers. That gap is probably because the Azure data skews senior and the AWS data includes a large volume of junior IT services roles. But the Azure premium at mid-senior level is real.

City Differences

Bengaluru pays the most. Senior cloud engineers at product companies in Bengaluru earn ₹28 to 50 LPA. GCC roles run ₹24 to 42 LPA. The Glassdoor median across all levels in Bengaluru is around ₹8 LPA, which reflects the weight of junior and IT services roles in the data.

Hyderabad is competitive. Strong presence from Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, and Walmart. Mid-level cloud engineers at GCCs earn ₹15 to 28 LPA.

Delhi NCR has a growing cloud market. Mid-level at product companies and GCCs earns ₹13 to 24 LPA.

Mumbai is relevant for BFSI cloud engineering. Banks and financial institutions need cloud engineers who understand compliance, security, and hybrid cloud architectures. Senior BFSI cloud roles pay ₹22 to 40 LPA.

Monthly Take-Home Reference

At ₹6 LPA: roughly ₹40,000 to 43,000 per month.At ₹12 LPA: roughly ₹77,000 to 82,000 per month.At ₹22 LPA: roughly ₹1.33 to 1.38 lakh per month.At ₹35 LPA: roughly ₹2 to 2.1 lakh per month.At ₹55 LPA: roughly ₹3 to 3.1 lakh per month.

What Cloud Engineer Interviews Test

Cloud engineer interviews at product companies and GCCs are scenario-heavy. Interviewers present you with a broken production environment and watch you diagnose it. They give you a scale requirement and ask you to design the architecture. They probe your understanding of cloud-native services and ask you to justify technology choices over alternatives.

The gap between reading about AWS or Azure and performing that knowledge under interview conditions is real. Explaining your diagnosis process out loud while someone evaluates you is a different skill from doing it alone in your own AWS console.

At Intervue.io, cloud engineer mock interviews are one-on-one with engineers who have operated real cloud infrastructure at scale and know exactly what these companies look for in a hire.
